Contempt is the method to enforce court orders that are not being obeyed. Such court orders may apply to property rights, debt practice resulting from a divorce, orders of child custody and visiting rights and orders involving any type of support. Contempt may be civil or criminal. Civil or criminal contempt actions are for different reasons, and different standards apply to each.
